G.F.A CUP ROUND 1
OPPOSITION: QUAYSIDE RES
GROUND AWAY

Today we should have played in the other cup (Gilbert Pullin), but we had to play the G.F.A game from last week.

We played Quayside twice last season and lost both games (1-3 and 6-1).
Like us they have swapped leagues this season, we checked out the current League Table, and we are ahead of them.
THE ARGONAUTS 4 1 0 3 9 16 3
QYAYSIDE RES 5 1 0 4 5 24 3
This gave us added confidence, as we won our last game, and if we win today’s it would be our first ever cup win.

Mike our goalie was missing for today’s game, so were Matt & Gary. Dave was playing his first game since coming off injured a few games ago. We had a real ref.

Corners (Click To Enlarge)They had centre, and the pitch was quite heavy from all the recent rain, and this was to show, as during the game about 5 of the corners from both teams were so bad they didn’t come into play.
We had shot’s and their keeper saved them, but nothing spectacular. Then about 30min’s in to the
game, Paul-S ran on to a throw-in by the half way line, kept on running, around a few people and shot. Goal, Paul who was captain for this game also scored last time we played Quayside.

We got to half time and we were still one nil up, Rob said he wanted to get another goal before making changes to the side, as he knew this cup game could have gone to extra time and penalties if it wasn’t won by the end of 90 minutes.

Our Centre (Click To Enlarge)The second half started and I don’t think we got anywhere in the first 20 minutes, as they had the ball, but weren’t really making any progress. Then we picked up again, and we had a few shot’s by Dave, Rob and Paul-S. With about 5min’s to go their keeper miskicked a goal-kick, it went short. Andy pounced on it, miss-controlled it and back heeled it to Dave, Dave went around a defender and shot – Goal.
Rob then brought on Stu and Ian, for Nick and Dave. With just about 4 minutes to go we just had to hold on. We got the ball and Mark from midfield kicked the ball down the right wing, Stu ran onto it, and put a cross towards Ian, but it was cut out. Ian got the last touch of the game.

Argonauts Record’s broken today;
First ever Argonauts cup win.
First ever clean sheet kept by the Argonauts.
First ever consecutive back to back win

The Game Ended Up 0-2
Goal Scored by: Paul-s, Dave
Man Of The Match: Rich & Mark
Starting Line Up:

Man of the match, again like last season voted for by the players.
