- Monday 26th Sep.
- Monday came, the appointment wasn’t until 2:20 so I had a
long wait. I managed to wash my
hair under the shower while standing up outside the bath just leaning on my good
right leg. Took off my splint and
bandages and washed my left knee – very carefully. Put splint back on, went down stairs took off the splint
again, tried moving my knee like the Dr. had asked me too. I could just about move my knee up maybe 1cm.
I defiantly couldn’t raise my foot off the ground.
-
- Mum came in about 1:15.
Five minutes after Scott from work rang, asking how it went and the
Dr’s and how I should have phoned him. I
said the appointment not until 2:20 – he thought I said 10:20 when I spoke to
him last week. Anyway Mum made me a
few sandwiches and a coffee. I
could only manage 2 of the sandwiches, as I was very nervous of what was going
to happen today. I’d been to the
loo 3times just in the morning. That’s
more than any other day in the whole past week.
-
- We all got in Nigel’s car, Nigel took the motorway to get
the Frenchay. I had my eyes shut
most of the time and I was hanging on to the headrest.
-
- The waiting room wasn’t as busy as it was last week.
Nigel went to park his car, Mum booked me in, we’d already been called
to be seen before Nigel got back from parking.
-
- The Dr. took off my splint, cut off the bandaged – as it
was quicker. Looked at my knee,
fiddled with it, asked if I could bend it.
He raised it to try and bend it for me, but I was all anguish.
-
- He then gave his thoughts, how the quad mussel above the
knee didn’t feel like it was there, which is why I couldn’t raise my foot
off the ground, but below the knee felt odd too, and he said he would book me in
for a scan.
- There are two ways to do this:
- 1)
Omit me overnight, I would then hopefully get the scan the next day and
then the operation in the next few days
- 2)
Send me home, he’ll put in for a scan request, we’ll then get a date
for the scan, wait again while they look at the scan, then have to wait for an
op date.
-
- The Dr. decided the best thing as I’d already had a week
off, was to go for option 1)
-
- We then had to wait to see another Dr. I was put into a
wheel chair to be taken to ward (201) which I’m going to be in is quite far
away from where we are now.
- Saw this other Dr. in a room, he just made notes and asked
me questions. The porter arrived to
take me to the ward. There were no
beds ready for me so I was placed in the day room for about 30mins.
Then I was taken to a small room with 1 bed, a window, own sink and the
loo was right outside my door.
- So I’m now in my room, waiting for a scan, which could
happen tomorrow, it’s now about 6pm, Mum and Nigel leave to get some things
for me. I have tea and my blood
pressure taken. Mum and Nigel come back about 8pm – they can only be here for
another 30min’s.

I now start to write this diary.
